Doing More with Less: Overcoming Data Scarcity for POI Recommendation via Cross-Region Transfer

چکیده
Variability in social app usage across regions results a high skew of the quantity and quality check-in data collected, which turn is challenge for effective location recommender systems. In this paper, we present Axolotl (Automated cross Location-network Transfer Learning), novel method aimed at transferring preference models learned data-rich region to significantly boost recommendations data-scarce region. predominantly deploys two channels information transfer, (1) meta-learning based procedure using recommendation as well predictions, (2) lightweight unsupervised cluster-based transfer users locations with similar preferences. Both these work together synergistically achieve improved accuracy without any prerequisite overlapping minimal fine-tuning. We build on top twin graph-attention neural network model used capturing user- location-conditioned influences user-mobility graph each conduct extensive experiments 12 user mobility datasets U.S., Japan, Germany, 3 source 9 them (that have much sparsely recorded data) target regions. Empirically, show that achieves up 18% better performance than existing state-of-the-art methods all metrics.

Overcoming data scarcity with transfer learning
Despite increasing focus on data publication and discovery in materials science and related fields, the global view of materials data is highly sparse. This sparsity encourages training models on the union of multiple datasets, but simple unions can prove problematic as (ostensibly) equivalent properties may be measured or computed differently depending on the data source. These hidden contextu...

Several issues concerning stepped care are discussed: the constraints of using Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders diagnoses in randomized clinical trials (RCTs), the importance of basic and process research, the unintended negative effects of exaggerated claims of effectiveness and efficiency, the limits of RCTs in evaluating improvement and deterioration, the self-correcting...
متن کاملLearning More by Doing Less
A principal must decide whether to implement each of two independent proposals (e.g., earmark requests, policy reforms, grant funding) of unknown quality. Each proposal is represented by an agent who advocates by producing evidence about quality. Although the principal prefers the most-informative evidence, agents strategically choose less-informative evidence to maximize the probability the pr...
متن کاملInfluenza Viruses and mRNA Splicing: Doing More with Less
During their nuclear replication stage, influenza viruses hijack the host splicing machinery to process some of their RNA segments, the M and NS segments. In this review, we provide an overview of the current knowledge gathered on this interplay between influenza viruses and the cellular spliceosome, with a particular focus on influenza A viruses (IAV). These viruses have developed accurate reg...
